How to change a QR code destination after printing

You can change where a printed QR code sends people if it is a dynamic code and you control its redirect. A static code contains its original destination; the printed pattern cannot be rewritten.

For example, a restaurant can print one dynamic QR code on a table card, then point it to a new menu link when the menu changes. The QR image stays the same.

First, check what your printed code contains

Scan the code with your phone and inspect the link preview before opening it. A FutureQR dynamic code uses a short link such as https://futureqr.app/r/abc123 (or a configured custom domain). It redirects to the destination saved in your account. If you used another provider, look for the code in that provider's dashboard.

A code that directly contains your website or PDF address is static. You may still be able to update the content at that address, or configure a redirect if you control the website. That changes what the existing address serves; it does not change the URL encoded in the QR pattern.

Change an existing FutureQR dynamic code

  1. Sign in to the account that owns the code and open Your codes.
  2. Find the code you printed. Use its name and short link to identify the right one.
  3. Edit its Destination field with the new public web address, then choose Save.
  4. Scan the original printed code with your phone and confirm that it opens the new destination. You do not need to download or print another QR image.

Changing the design is different: a new logo, color, or frame only appears in a newly downloaded image. A destination update changes where the existing printed code goes.

Create a code you can update later

If you have not printed yet, create a free account before generating your dynamic code. FutureQR Free includes 2 dynamic QR codes with editable destinations and basic scan counts. Paste the current destination, create the code in your account, download it, and test a printed sample before ordering the full batch.

The no-account homepage builder creates static codes. Choose that option when the encoded link will stay the same. For a menu, flyer, event page, or package whose destination may move, a dynamic code gives you that flexibility.

Can I convert a printed static QR code into a dynamic one?

No. You cannot replace the URL encoded in an already printed pattern. If you control the original web address, updating its content or setting a redirect may solve the problem. Otherwise, create a new dynamic code and replace the printed code, for example with a new label.

What if the code was created somewhere else?

Use the original provider's account to change its redirect. FutureQR cannot edit a short link owned by another service. If you cannot access that account or URL, you may need a replacement code.

What happens if I cancel Pro?

Existing FutureQR codes keep redirecting. Your account returns to Free, where you can edit 2 codes. Pro supports up to 100 active dynamic codes and adds brand design tools. See current plans and pricing for the limits that apply before printing.
